Photos and maps in cool board

Photo Tips

For the KickPin newbies, you will find KickPin is a visually based app, which means good photos are key to creating a great board. As such, we have come up with a few photography tips and tricks to help you get the best board possible.

  1. Lighting

Lighting is super important when you’re sharing photos whether it’s a collage or a standalone picture. While professional photographers lug around cumbersome lighting equipment, utilizing the natural light is much cheaper, and weighs far less.

The Golden Hour refers to the time when the sun rises or sets. This lighting is flattering for landscape and portrait shots. When photos are taken direct in overhead sun, the result is a washed out and pale look. To avoid this, it’s best to plan your photos around the sun or even venture out on a cloudier day to avoid excessive sun exposure. Your photos will look better and you’ll also avoid a nasty sun burn.

  1. Camera

It’s not necessary to spend thousands of dollars to capture a great picture, but having a camera you’re comfortable with that suits the type of picture you take will really help. If you like to bird watch, you’ll want something with sufficient zoom, whereas if you’re capturing motion shots, something that can capture images quicker.

Already sporting a camera on your mobile device? Perfect! iPhones and Androids come equipped with cameras that are ready to get the job done. Try focusing (no pun intended) on some of the built-in settings such as filters, slo-mo, time lapse, panoramic and more.

  1. Photo Editor

Professional photographers spend time (and moo la!) using in depth (okay, this pun was intended) editing photos. If you’re don’t want to spend a lot of money for applications like Photoshop and Lightroom, there are a few apps that can help you out:

  • Snapseed
  • VSCO
  • Filterstorm Neue
  • Enlight
  • Mextures
